...Winecation...

Donnie and I enjoyed a much need and well deserved getaway to the Finger Lakes.  We stayed at 10 Fitch,  a luxurious and romantic bed and breakfast.  This was the first time in 9 years that we had been away from the kids for more than one night.

It. Was. Heaven.
It was wonderful to have time for just the two of us.  We enjoyed the beautiful weather, delicious meals, went shopping, got a couples massage, and spent a day on the Cayuga Lake Wine Trail.
I couldn't resist modeling all my
souvenirs from our day on the wine trail!
A special thank you to Donnie's parents for coming out to visit us and watch the kiddos while we escaped for a few days!  The kids had so much fun playing with Grandpa and Grandma!!!

...thanksgiving...

A time to be thankful for all of the blessings that God has given us.

Luke made this turkey at school, and his teachers listed the things he is thankful for...

He said, my scooter, my brother and sister, my mom and dad, and my house and car. I love his list! It makes me smile to see what is important to him at 4 years old!

While we are busy getting ready for Thanksgiving, I am reminded just how far removed Donnie is from celebrating holidays. He had no idea Thanksgiving was this Thursday (he thought it was next week). He won't get to have a special turkey dinner or be with family or friends, it will be just like any other work day in Afghanistan. It makes my heart sad...

I hope the pine cone turkeys the kids made and the pecan pie (his favorite pie) I baked in canning jars brings a little Thanksgiving to him in Afghanistan!

...Happy Thanksgiving...

Serenity Prayer

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

I didn't realize how much I needed this prayer these last 5 days, but I have more than ever.  Donnie, thank you for reminding me to pray this prayer.  We all face challenges and go through things that we'd rather not, but we always get through them.

Side note:  This post is mainly so I can get a bunch of jumbled thoughts out of my head.

Lately it seems that if something can go wrong it will.  I chalk most of it up to the fact that deployment stinks, and everything is harder without your hubby around to help.

For example, my kids were exposed to lice 5 days ago.  Since then I have done more loads of laundry than I can count, vacuumed the carpet (multiple times), vacuumed beds and couches, sanitized toys, washed stuffed animals and dress up clothes and doll clothes, sanitized pillows, and I put about anything else that they possibly could have come in contact with in a XXL Ziploc baggy to be sealed up for 2 weeks to kill anything else.  Oh and treated 3 little head for lice, just in case.  Thankfully, my house is cleaner than it ever has been and there hasn't been any sign of lice in this house!  Lets pray it stays that way.

Toady's fun adventure was a trip to Walmart to get groceries with all three kids. A task that I WILL NOT be doing again once the school year starts!  All in all the trip wasn't too bad, and a nice lady even complimented me on how well my 3 children were behaving.  That is probably because I had already threatened to take away bike riding later that evening if they didn't shape up!  Of course, about an hour ago I just realized we made it  home without one of our bags. Ugg! Back to Walmart again tomorrow!

Thankfully nothing I needed to make this delicious dinner was in the bag that got left at the store.

Chicken and Black Bean Tostada
I got this great recipe from my friends blog.  Who is up for Circle of Moms, Top 25 New York mom bloggers.  You should visit the site and vote for Our Blessed, Beautiful, Big City Life!

I know that I can not change the fact that Donnie is in Afghanistan.  I am so very thankful that he is safe (today) and that we can communicate with each other on a daily basis.  Nothing hurts your heart more than knowing you can't do anything to make things better for one another when you are so far apart. I am lucky that I can still hug and kiss our kids (this always makes me feel better), but all I am left to offer Donnie is an ear to listen to what little he can tell me and some words of encouragement.  I pray that is enough.  This is the closest I can get to a hug for you for now...I love you!

Father's Day...

...A day to celebrate your Dad! I miss not being with my Dad on Father's Day, but I am looking forward to being with him in Texas in about a week!

Dad's are special.  I love that my dad always made time for us when we were little and that he is always there for me when I need him.

We knew that Donnie wasn't going to be here on Father's Day, so we had a Dad's Day before he deployed.  I am glad that Donnie could think about that day and all the fun we had at the baseball game today on Father's Day!

Donnie is an amazing dad.  He adores spending time with his children and makes sure they know how much he loves and cherishes each of them in their own special way.  Happy Father's Day!  We love you!
